You can see the cross-channel ferry from my window, so tonight I’m feeling pretty envious as I watch it getting ready to depart with the last little glimpse of sunset behind.
What a gorgeous send off!
Today, I’m motivated by watching the documentary From Fat to Finish Line. Tonight seems to have been a great time to watch it – part of my Noom challenges involves walking a certain number of steps per day, but I feel extremely anxious when I’m out in public so I’ve instead made the decision to purchase a treadmill. Watching the team on From Fat to Finish Line has been inspiring and gave me the final push I needed to finally place my order. It’s not very expensive or fancy, but it will do the job and maybe one day I’ll even start running!
On the down side, I ordered a pizza today (and a brownie). I’m trying not to beat myself up about it so I don’t just give up altogether, but I still also need to be strict enough to enforce that it was a mistake and can’t happen regularly. It’s a tricky balancing act, but I’ll get there in the end!
As a final note, I was reading inspirational quotes today after spiralling into a pretty tragic bout of depression, and read the following:
Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. – Steve Jobs
This quote really struck me because I had two very sudden epiphanies:
- When it comes to work, it doesn’t matter if you hate the people you work for as long as you love the work you do.
- When it comes to your health, it doesn’t matter if you hate the work you have to do as long as you love the person you’re doing it for.
I’m not sure what either of these realisations will do for me today, tomorrow, or even next week, but I hope I can carry them with me until I’m ready for them. And on that note, good night!
